This beanie a very special beanie.
My 12-year-old niece, Chloe, has spent over a year going through treatment for a rare type of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. Her treatment has included chemotherapy, surgeries and radiation, and has meant spending a lot of time away from her home in the Northwest Territories.
Through all of this, one of the places that has brought Chloe a whole lot of happiness is Campfire Circle.
Campfire Circle provides free programs for kids with cancer or serious illnesses and their families. Their programs happen in hospitals, in communities and at medically supported overnight camps, giving kids a chance to make friends, have adventures, be creative and, more importantly, just be kids.
Chloe first discovered Campfire Circle while receiving treatment at SickKids, where she spent time doing arts and crafts at The Cabin, their in-hospital activity space. When she was well enough, she joined community programs in Toronto and eventually got to spend a week at Campfire Circle’s overnight camp in Muskoka.
She absolutely loved it.
In Chloe’s words, camp gave her a community of people who understood what she was going through. She made friends, tackled the adventure course, performed around the campfire and, naturally for Chloe, made plenty of art along the way.
So, we made Chloe a beanie.
If you know Chloe, you would know she loves purple. She also loves to draw.
Chloe’s Purple Merino Beanie is made in Vancouver from our soft Merino wool. Chloe designed the special logo for her beanie herself. Replacing our cute sheep, is an even cuter octopus.

Campfire Circle gave Chloe a place where cancer wasn’t the most important thing about her. She could make friends who understood, make things with her hands, have adventures and have fun.
As Chloe puts it, the friendships she made there are ones she believes will last a lifetime.
