SOURCING

Ethically Chosen Materials

Our story begins with the sheep. On family-run farms in Australia, Merino sheep graze freely on open pastures, cared for by farmers who prioritize both animal welfare and land stewardship. We use only certified non-mulesed wool, sourced under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), ensuring ethical treatment and sustainable practices from the very beginning.

That same care continues into processing. Our wool is refined in an Australian-owned facility—one of the most advanced textile mill in the country—powered by 1,500 solar panels and supported by a closed-loop water recycling system that reuses 80% of its grey water.

Production

Keeping Our Work Close to Home

All of our pieces are designed and made right here in Vancouver, in collaboration with three family-run apparel manufacturers—people we consider friends, not just partners. These teams work in safe, respectful environments, earning a living wage with benefits, and their expertise shines through in every stitch. Because production happens just a short drive from our family home, we visit often—watching, learning, and sharing in the pride of their craft.

Minimizing Waste

Every Scrap Counts

Most apparel brands don’t manage their production waste—it’s often discarded without a second thought. At Simply Merino, we take full ownership of what we create, keeping every scrap of textile waste from landfill. In just six years, we’ve saved over 5,000 pounds of Merino wool through intentional design and hands-on sorting.

We reduce waste at the design stage by creating smaller products—like nursing pads, scrunchies, and mittens—that fit between our main pattern pieces. After cutting, we collect and organize every offcut, storing usable wool for future use.

These sorted scraps support upcoming recycling projects and help us eliminate plastic entirely from our packaging. It takes extra time, but to us, nothing is ever just leftover—everything has potential.

Worn Well, Loved Longer

“If it’s not worth mending, don’t buy it.”

That simple idea guides how we design. Our pieces are made to last—and made to be loved longer. We include free wool patches with most products, because every repair tells a story. A patch on the knee isn’t a flaw—it’s a moment, a memory, a milestone worth keeping.

When it’s finally time to say goodbye, your Merino doesn’t go to waste. Merino wool is fully biodegradable and can be returned to the earth as natural fertilizer. Just remove any tags, thread, or elastic, cut the fabric into small pieces, and bury it in your compost or garden. Within 12 months, it breaks down completely—nourishing the soil that once nurtured it.
